I am wondering if you have come up with a solution for this already.

We just placed an X in the top right corner so it is a bit like a pop up in terms of navigation.With the help of custom code the X appears on all pages that are in category 26. So when creating a new project page you don't have to manually add the X element on the page just set it to the right category.
