Lazy load with blurred preview

Just wondering – Is it possible to integrate a blurred (very low-res) preview of images loading in a lay theme page? Is that something that could be done with custom CSS? The way images load on this page is an example

theres no way you can do that, however, i've been thinking of coding this as an option for lay theme and it is still on my list

Thanks, @arminunruh, you’re a legend! A suggestion: how about adding a feature to control the level of blur? Sometimes it feels more pixelated than blurred, and it doesn’t quite hit the right vibe for me. :) Thank you anyway!
