Where does Laytheme store its settings?
-
Hey,
it seems that the Wordpress auto-update has totally fucked up my site. I get a "HTTP ERROR 500" error code whenever I try to get to my website and/or the backend.
My webhoster's support told me it's a corrupted functions.php file that's causing the error and told me to just re-upload fresh Wordpress files to my ftp. So I was wondering if there is any chance that my site will still work with all its settings and design changes I made after re-uploading the Wordpress files. Any idea where the settings are stored? Any chance to back them up?
Thanks!

Hey Dnz!
I am very sorry to hear this!
Yes, this is a problem we (web-developers) all have to face from time to time.
Serverproblems, 500 Errors etc…No need to panic yet. All your files and database-entries are still there.
What I would do in your case is to get a database backup. You can do the in php Admin in your Webspace or ask your provider to send you the database.
Then I would go on the Webserver FTP and download all the upload folder.
Then install Wordpress locally on your computer using MAMP or install it on a Subdomain for test-reasons.
Install Laytheme again, drag and drop the upload folder into Wordpress and the import the database.
To import the database can be a bit tricky if you have never done this before but there are good tutorials online to guide you through the process.
So actually you are making a fresh Wordpress and get content and data back in. Once it is running locally or on your testserver, you can trow it back online.
I know that sucks. I've been through that a couple of times. Especially before deadlines :-)
Good luck and let me know if you need further assistance!

Hi dnz!
Great!
Would you mind explaining us briefly what the problem was?
Then we can learn from it and other people who face the same problem as well.
Thank you!
Marius
