Parse Error, syntax error, unexpected, website crashed no access to website anymore

Hi there, I tried to install the lay theme like it's been descripted on your website and immediately after the step of "activate" my website crashed and I no longer have access to my page. I spoke with my server support and they helped me to reactivate my website. I tried again to install Lay but agin- same issue, so I again had to refresh/ reactivate my website with my server system so I'd love to know how I can install your theme successfully without any further issues?

can you please use PHP 8?
this error happens because you use PHP 7.
unfortunately i cant make this part of the code PHP 7 compatible, because then, everybody who uses php 8 will get a warning message..in your webhost control panel you should be able to make your server use php 8.
any php 8 version works
