Slow page load between category and page

I am experiencing delays in the background colour and navbar animations when changing between categories and pages.

For instance, if you go from http://foolscap-editions.com/about > http://foolscap-editions.com/colophon/ the background colour remains and the transition between the pages is smooth.

However, if you go then from http://foolscap-editions.com/colophon/ > http://foolscap-editions.com/category/editions then the whole page goes white and reloads the site which makes it quite slow to navigate between pages.

I have also added in animations on the navbar for http://foolscap-editions.com/category/publications/ so it is slightly cleaner when travelling from a green background to white however this is not fully resolved.

Any ideas for how this could be tidied up?

if you use shortcodes on a page, it will always reload when navigating to that page!
