How to prepare an update on a hidden page, then move it to Home?

Hi.
My website is currently pretty simple: portfolio is displayed on Home by a simple carroussel then there is an About & Contact page.

I plan to update my website by changing also the design of the Home.
It is a pretty long task as I will now have multiple carrousels and more complex lay-out.

I am currently doing tests on a new hidden page. What is the easiest way for this page to become later my Home just by “moving” it?
I do not want to completely shut my website while I am doing these modifications for instance.

I did not find any ressources about it may be I do not have the good wording this.

you can use a different page (not project) and do everything there.
Once done you call it home and set it as start page in the CUSTOMIZER.
Then you can rename the slugs / urls of home and the new page to be 100% right.
